In the Memory of Remarkable President Hiam Sakr

It is with profound respect and sincere regret that we acknowledge the passing of a distinguished educator and visionary institutional leader, President Dr. Hiam Sakr. Throughout her career, she played a pivotal role in the establishment and development of numerous educational institutions and English language-teaching centres, contributing significantly to the advancement of learning and the dissemination of knowledge. She has also been a great support to many higher education institutions including ours, the American University of Technology.

Her professional life was defined by an exceptional commitment to expanding access to quality education. Through her leadership, she founded and supported institutions that not only upheld rigorous academic standards but also fostered inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments. Her initiatives supported the professional growth of educators over multiple generations.

President Hiam Sakr contributions extended beyond administrative accomplishments. She was widely recognized for her support to pedagogical innovation, and her dedication to promoting competence acquisition and development as a vital component of contemporary education. The schools and programmes she established/supported continue to play an essential role in shaping learners’ academic trajectories and in advancing practices in the many fields of higher education in Lebanon.

In recognition of her lifelong service and in honour of her memory, the American University of Technology shall stop all activities tomorrow, allowing the community to participate in the funerals of President Sakr and to stand in solidarity with our Founding President Mrs. Hinain.

Her passing represents a significant loss to the academic community and to our AUT family. However, the institutions she founded/supported and the educational frameworks she developed will remain enduring components of her legacy.

We express our deepest condolences to her family, our founding president, colleagues, and the many students whose lives have been enriched by her remarkable contributions. Her legacy will be remembered with esteem and gratitude.
