The Advisory Board for Water Resources held its first meeting on January 26, 2016 under the leadership of AUT President Ghada Hinain assisted by VPs Rizk and Hinain.

Hinain introduced AUT's mission and the tripod model that serves as the backbone of its action. This model links AUT to top universities with outstanding reputation and academic resources for faculty and student exchange as well as for joint research. It also connects the university to the public and private sectors for internships, employment and awareness of public policy and future nation-wide plans that would affect employment. This model is being applied to each department at AUT. The Water Resources Advisor Board members include the following:
Public Officials:
Dr Berj Hajetian, Director General of the Ministry of Environment
Mr Ghassan Beydoun, Director General of Exploitation at the Ministry of Energy and water
Academicians:
Dr Pieter van der Zaag, senior professor in Integrated Water Management from the UNESCO Institute for Water Education, Delft, The Netherlands
Industry Leaders:
Mr Khalil Bouery, Water Master
Mr Wael Chalhoub, from EMCO
Mr Assad Saadeh, from Nestle
Environemnt Experts:
Ms Lamia Chamas, Program Manager at the Project Administration Office - ‎Presidency of the Council of Ministers
Dr Ralf Klingbeil, Regional Advisor on Environment at ESCWA

More distinguished scholars and industry leaders will join the Board in the next few weeks.

The inaugural sessions was devoted to a review of the BS in Water Resource Science curriculum in view of market needs and of graduate studies requirements. Also discussed was the necessity to offer quality internships and employment and the need to start processing applications as of the spring semester. The coordinator of the program Dr Marc Saadeh handled the course content discussions with Board members while the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science, Dr Najib El Haddad interacted via Skype about the general characteristics of the curriculum. Board members also spoke to junior and senior students of water Resource Science to get a sense of their expectations.
