Food safety and water quality are the two action items that students of AUT have worked on with endorsement by the Municipality of Byblos since summer 2015. All restaurants of the city were inspected by AUT Hospitality Management students for food safety and handling while all sources of water for the city were tested for quality by students of Water Resources Science. Artesian wells, tankers, potable water in all public schools were subjected to testing in the AUT state-of-the-art labs and results were communicated to the Municipality of Byblos.
Phase II began in July 2016 and students have elaborated more tests for food safety and water quality under supervision of their department coordinators. The daily L'Orient Le jour has published an article on this initiative that ties AUT to its community that can be read at http://www.lorientlejour.com/article/999067/une-collaboration-inedite-entre-laut-et-la-municipalite-de-byblos.html
