  • Registration in absentia or by proxy is not allowed.
  • New students must ensure that all the documents required from them in the letter of admission are submitted to the Admissions Office before registration.
  • New and transfer students should show their letter of admission before paying their registration fee at the Business Office.

Students Who Benefit from Financial Aid

An Affordable University
Made Even More Affordable

Cost is a common barrier to higher education. We do our best to reduce the cost, to make it easier for students and their parents.

Financial aid is available to students to help them cover the costs of education. It can be awarded in the form of discounts, work-study, grants, and scholarships.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Process

The Financial Aid application form may be obtained from the Financial Aid Office. It must be filled out and submitted before September 15 for the Fall semester, and January 15 for the Spring semester.  The information provided is, of course, strictly confidential. Along with the application form, students must submit the required documents. The Financial Aid Office then contacts the student for an interview, accompanied by parent or guardian, before a decision is made.
Providing misleading information may result in the rejection of the Financial Aid application. If the Financial Aid Office later discovers that incorrect information was given, the university reserves the right to revoke financial aid and request the return of the money already paid.

General Rules

  • Financial aid is given to deserving students regardless of race, religion, nationality, or gender.
  • Financial aid is granted for one academic year—from October to June. It may be renewed upon reapplication if eligibility still holds.
  • Financial aid applies only to the portion of the tuition in Lebanese pounds.
  • Financial aid is deducted from the tuition, and does not include the Registration and Insurance, Technology, and NSSF (National Social Security Fund) fees.
  • One kind of financial aid may be combined with another to cover more of the total cost of education.
  • Students not eligible for financial aid who cannot pay the tuition and fees all at once are allowed to pay the amount in installments throughout the current semester.
  • Many governmental and non-governmental organizations provide parents with financial assistance to help them with the educational needs of their dependents. Students on financial aid who benefit from such aid must inform the Financial Aid Office, in writing, of any such financial assistance they are receiving. The total financial aid received from AUT and the external sources should not exceed the student’s tuition and fees.

Types of Financial Aid

Discount

Regular Discount: Given to deserving students.

Sibling Discount: A 10% discount is given to brothers and sisters registered at the same time. With three siblings, they get 20% discount each.

Athletic Discount: A 10% discount is given to athletes who are selected to play in the various sports teams of the university.

Corporate Discount: By special agreement between AUT and any given institution, students sponsored by this institution may benefit from a discount which must not exceed 25% of the tuition.

Staff Discount: Staff family members benefit from a 25% discount on tuition; whereas the children of staff benefit from 100% discount.

Work-Study

The work-study program gives students the opportunity to work part-time in the university to help them pay for their education and acquire work experience.

Grants

President Grant: The President of the university chooses the recipient(s) of this grant, which could be offered to more than one student.

Designated Grant: Given by individuals or organizations according to criteria determined by the donor.

Scholarships

Granted to students with excellent grades in high school or who achieve a very high GPA at AUT.

Eligibility

To be eligible for financial aid, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at AUT.
  2. Be registered for at least 15 credits—unless they are in their last semester, and are left with less than 15 credits to graduate.
  3. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.4 and above. New students may get financial aid based only on financial considerations, and that for only one year. The GPA requirement will apply after the first year.
  4. No disciplinary action was taken against them.

Loss of Eligibility

Students lose financial aid if:

  1. Their cumulative GPA drops below 2.4. Reinstating financial aid is possible, upon reapplying, if the cumulative GPA becomes satisfactory again.
  2. They are subject to disciplinary action.
